Chapter 1 of the service manual does not show that any Intel i7 dual core processor is supported.

What's the full model number or product number of your notebook?

I see a G72-262NR notebook Intel BIOS update version F.37 with a release date of May 3, 2011.

The BIOS revision history section indicates that F.16 added support for new processors.

That was the only update that added support for newer processors.

The BIOS updates will only be supported to run on Windows 7, no matter what model G72 notebook you have.
