@Besc17, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to have your new HP Chromebook overheating and draining battery quickly.
Here are some causes and steps you can take:

Overheating Causes & Fixes

Blocked Vents or Poor Ventilation:

  • Ensure the Chromebook is on a hard, flat surface (not on a bed or lap).
  • Use canned air to clean out any dust from the vents.

High CPU Usage:

  • Check for background apps or Chrome extensions that may be consuming resources.
  • Restart the device and monitor performance in ChromeOS Diagnostics.

Firmware or BIOS Issues:

  • Make sure your Chromebook is fully updated.
  • If issues persist, a firmware reset (removing the battery and holding the power button for 30 seconds) might help.

Battery Draining Fast

Battery Health Check:

  • Open the Diagnostics app on your Chromebook.
  • If battery health is below 70%, it may be defective or degraded.

Power Management Tips:

  • Lower screen brightness.
  • Close unused tabs and apps.
  • Disconnect peripherals when not in use.

ChromeOS Updates:

  • Sometimes, updates can temporarily cause battery drain. Make sure your system is up to date and give it a few days to stabilize.
