Hello,

I’ve encountered a problem with my HP Laptop 15s-eq2152ng (426Y3EA) – I’ve run out of storage space. I’m wondering if it’s possible to upgrade the SSD to increase my storage capacity. Could you provide some guidance on compatible SSDs and the upgrade process?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi:

Your notebook only has one M.2 SSD slot, so you will have to remove the 256 GB NVMe SSD and replace it with one having a greater storage capacity--up to 4 TB.

Naturally, the larger storage capacity you want the more it will cost.

Your notebook's M.2 slot is PCIe Gen 3.0.

While a Gen 4.0 SSD will work, it will not run at its maximum advertised read/write speeds, not to exceed 4,000 MBPS read/write.

Below is the link to the service manual which has the SSD removal and replacement procedure.

Maintenance and Service Guide HP 15 Laptop PC

Popular SSD's with good specs and warranties would be Samsung or Crucial products.

You can either clone the existing drive's contents to the new drive.

You will need cloning software to do that as well as purchasing a USB 3/USB-C to NVMe SSD enclosure to temporarily install the new drive in so you can clone to it.

Samsung and Crucial offer cloning software.

The enclosure would be something like this:

ORICO M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure USB-C Adapter 10Gbps USB 3.2 / USB3.1 Gen2 for PCIe NVMe M-Key / M+B Ke...

Or, you can also reinstall Windows on the new SSD, by making bootable USB installation media with the media creation tool.

Download Windows 11

Since your notebook originally came with FreeDOS, you must have the product key you used to install Windows available.
