Hi:

You can install up to 2 x 16 GB of DDR4-2400 memory in your notebook.

But here is what I suggest, unless you have the budget to do everything.

Upgrade the memory to 2 x 8 GB of DDR4-2400.

Replace the slow performing 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a much better performing M.2 NVMe SSD since your notebook has a M.2 slot that supports NVMe SSD's, or you can use the 2.5" drive for storage and not as the boot drive.

Below is the link to the service manual.

HP 15 Laptop PC Maintenance and Service Guide

The service manual indicates the max memory is 2 x 8 GB but you can see that your notebook will support 32 GB by running this command:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

Thank you Mr. Paul

at the  same time I did some research myself and I found that my laptop configuration support only 16GB maximum (2x8GB) at 2666 MHz according to Service and maintenance for 15 DA........

I fallow command prompr procedure and the results for motherboard support maximum 32GB

I'm not sure why they sayd in the manual that maximum memory supported is 16GB, probabely the memory slots dose not support more than 8GB per slot?!?

I have maintain the original memory of 4GB at 2666MHz  and I added a 8GB , total 12GB at 2666MHz, and is a significant improvement in the laptop behavioue now!

Thanks again!

Hi,

I'm studing your recomandation regardig  mounting in my laptop configuration a M2 NVMe SSD drive.

Acording to service manual for HP da15 -......, with Intel core processore i5-8250U 1.60-GHz (SC turbo up to 3.40-GHz) quad core processor (6.0-MB L3 cache, 2400-MHz FSB, 15 W), i can mount better than M.2 SATA3 :

- PCIe, NVMe, M.2 solid-state drives from 256GB up to 512GB

- because i have now as primary storage device a mechanical drive at 1TB and i intent to keep him as storage as you said, i have the option for Dual storage configurations: 256 GB, PCIe, solid-state drive + 1 TB, 5400 rpm hard drive

Can you tell me why i canot mount a SSD M.2 NVMe PCIe at 512GB on the above configuration?

Tank you!

Hi:

Please carefully re-read my original reply to you...That is what I orginally suggested to you.

"Replace the slow performing 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a much better performing M.2 NVMe SSD since your notebook has a M.2 slot that supports NVMe SSD's, or you can use the 2.5" drive for storage and not as the boot drive."

Ok, I understand that, M.2 NVMe SSD  at 256GB or 512GB?

HP Recommended

You can use either

Depending on your storage needs and budget.

The budget is not relevant, the difference is approx. 1 eur, but technical, according to service manual I can use a M.2 SSD PCIe at 512GB and I am allright with that, but for the combination  M.2 SSD PCIe - mechanical drive (HDD) I can use only M.2 PCIe SSD only at 256GB- HDD at 1TB . Why only 256GB in this combination???

HP Recommended

The drive capacities listed in the service manual are normally just what HP offered in the model series, not the maximum capacity supported.
