@Tony7599, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your new HP laptop's battery is not charging, follow these troubleshooting steps to identify and resolve the issue:

Check the AC Adapter and Power Source:

  • Ensure that the AC adapter is connected properly to both the laptop and the power outlet.
  • Confirm that the power outlet is working by testing it with another device.
  • Disconnect any surge protectors or extension cords and try plugging the adapter directly into the wall outlet.

Inspect the Charging Cable and Adapter:

  • Examine the charging cable and adapter for any visible damage or wear. If damaged, consider replacing them with genuine HP components.

Remove and Reinsert the Battery (If Removable):

  • If your laptop has a removable battery, power down the laptop, remove the battery, and then reinsert it securely.

Reset the Battery Connection:

  • Power off the laptop and remove all external devices.
  • Hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to release any residual charge.
  • Reconnect the battery and power adapter, and try turning on the laptop again.

Update or Reinstall Battery Drivers:

  • Access the Device Manager on your laptop by right-clicking on the Start menu.
  • Expand the "Batteries" category and right-click on "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery."
  • Choose "Uninstall device," then restart your laptop. Windows will automatically reinstall the drivers.

Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers:

  • Visit HP Support to download and install the latest BIOS and chipset drivers for your laptop model.

Test the Battery:

  • Use the HP Support Assistant to perform a battery test. This can help diagnose any battery health issues.
