Microsoft Windows 11

To be noted the old keyboard was not backlit, and I have tested the new keyboard and all keys work. I made sure to connect the new ribbon for the backlight well. I think this is a drivers/bios issue. However, when I go on the HP website for the drivers, my OS isn't listed. I have windows 11 version 23H2. Unfortunately, the speakers are not working now :(. This connector was a huge pain so I believe this is the issue. I opened the back up again and reconnected both the backlight ribbon and the speakers connector, but that did not fix anything.

Hi @20Cmac ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you've done quite a bit of troubleshooting already!

Here are a few additional steps you can try:

  1. Check BIOS Settings: Sometimes, BIOS settings need to be adjusted

Here's a step-by-step approach to help

Check BIOS Settings: Sometimes, backlight functionality might be disabled in the BIOS. To check this, restart your laptop and enter the BIOS setup (usually by pressing F2, F10, ESC, or DEL during startup). Look for settings related to keyboard backlighting and ensure they are enabled.

Update BIOS: If your BIOS is outdated, it might not fully support the new backlit keyboard. Visit the HP support website and check for BIOS updates for your laptop model. If an update is available, follow the instructions to update the BIOS.

Driver Installation:

  • Keyboard Driver: Even though your OS version isn't listed, you might still be able to use a generic driver or one for a similar model. Try installing the driver for a similar HP laptop model with a backlit keyboard.
  • Audio Drivers: For the speakers, make sure you have the latest audio drivers installed. You can find these on the HP support website for your specific laptop model. If your OS isn't listed, try using drivers for Windows 10, as they may be compatible.

Check Hardware Connections:

  • Ensure the connectors for both the keyboard backlight and the speakers are properly seated. Sometimes a loose connection can cause these issues.
  • Inspect the connectors and ribbon cables for any visible damage.

Windows Troubleshooters:

  • For Speakers: Go to Settings > System > Sound and run the troubleshooter for audio playback. This can sometimes identify and fix problems.
  • For Keyboard: Go to Settings > Devices > Typing and run the troubleshooter for keyboards if available.

System Restore: If the issues started immediately after the keyboard replacement and you have a restore point from before the replacement, you might consider performing a system restore to revert to the previous state.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
