Hi:
What is the full model number or product number of your notebook?
Use this guide to find that information.

You should be able to install XP by slipstreaming the SATA AHCI drivers, but they are different depending on the processor model.
I have no idea what you will do for drivers. There will most likely be no graphics or audio drivers for XP.

Hi:
Unfortunately, there aren't any W7 ISO files to download anymore that you can use to make bootable W7 installation media.
You can see if this HP e-partner sells W7 recovery media for your notebook:

Now as far as installing XP:
I have zipped up and attached the XP 32-bit SATA AHCI drivers for notebooks with the AMD processors, below.
I have also attached the instructions for how to slipstream the drivers.
The instructions are for PC's with Intel processors, but the slipstreaming process is exactly the same.
You will just slipstream the driver folder I attached after you unzip it.
There are also links out there to help with the process.

OK, so if you want to install XP 64 bit, here are the 64-bit XP drivers to slipstream.
If you follow the instructions, you should be able to install XP, but like I wrote earlier, you will have the devil's own time trying to get the sound to work. Maybe there are graphics drivers though.
Personally, I wouldn't waste my time if I ended up having no sound, but it's your notebook.

You can use any of the 3 tutorials I sent.
You don't have to read them all, but that is up to you.

A special DVD burner?
No, you just need a regular CD/DVD burner.
If your notebook came with a DVD burner that one will work just fine.
