Can I add a terabyte in my laptop, I don’t want ruin my laptop by buying to large of a storage that it can not support.

Yes, why not ? It supports higher than 1TB but due to physical size therefore all 2TB HDD/SSD drives are ok. I know some vendors now can fit 4TB to physical standard size but please use 2TB for your machine.
