Is 16 GB of Ram in 2 sticks of 8 Still Max RAM upgrade and is the Samsung 970 SSD Mentioned in 2018 or 2019 thread on these 2 improvements simultaneously Done still the Best Disk Drive Replacement? I see the Caddy & Cable #s in that same Thread on these 2 Upgrades; Are those the part #s I will need if I buy that Samsung SSD #970 ?? I'm a Luddite So Just because I used some of Your Expert's data in My Question; don't be deluded that I'm Computer Hip ! I use this LapTop almost exclusively for work on my Family Tree on Ancestry dot Com and FamilySearch dot Org & My Heritage which Use a lot of Computer Horsepower is why I want more RAM & Bigger Disk Drive. I'm hoping these changes will be worth what they cost; I will be paying Geek Squad to Take it apart & put it Back together. Any Tips on Making Sure I keep all the Data off my old disk drive ? I have some digital copies of Very Old photos that are irreplaceable & very valuable to me & my Wife's & our Siblings Hearts. We are all grandfolks !

Hi,
First of all, if you have very important data on the machine, you should backup this data to an external drive and/or to a cloud service.
I believe your notebook only has one slot and supports max 8GB of RAM (10GB if there are 2GB integrated on motherboard)
So, that would mean you already have the max RAM installed.
page 1 of service manual
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05085451.pdf
Example from Crucial

Now, I also believe that your notebook with the FX-9800P does not support M2 PCIe NVMe SSD as we can see on page 1 of service manual.
So, basically your only upgrade would be to replace the 2.5" Hard Drive with a 2.5" SATA3 SSD. Not very costly upgrade. However, it will give a great boost to the everyday performance of the machine.
Hope it helps,
David

Thanks so Much for the Response way quicker thank Expected. It Really, really helps to know the SSD change will make a Great- improvement in speed for my daily use! ?Was the SSD U suggested the Same Samsung SSD I'd seen mentioned in a very similar Old thread=2018 & 2019 on making the RAM & SSD upgrades to the same or Very Similar Convertible HP Laptops ? I saved the SSD Caddy & SSD Cable part #s from the Old Thread in case I wound up Using the Samsung 970 the Expert Suggested As by far the fastest Choice. In other Words; is the SATA3 SSD a Samsung or who makes the SATA3 SSD & If I need a Caddy & a Cable would it be different if the SATA3 SSD is not same as Samsung 970 (( The Numbers & Letters associated with the SSDs mean nothing to Me. )) Is Your Logo a Sea Turtle ? My Logo should be a CaveMan ~!! GranPa Geezer-Jock David the Luddite ! Thanks So Very Much Again for Your Kind Help !!!

You're welcome.
Try not to be confused by the old threads.
What you need is a 2.5" SATA 3 SSD. There are many brands and different capacities.
The Samsung one would be the 2.5" SATA 3 Samsung 870 Evo which is considered the best

Other examples:
You do not need any extra cables as you will replace the 2.5" mechanical drive which is in the machine at the moment with the 2.5" SSD.
you can see the steps to replace the drive on page 27 of service manual
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05085451.pdf
You can create a USB with Windows 10 on it and then use this USB drive to reinstall Windows on the SSD

Yes the sea turtle. I hope not to meet you CaveMan, you will probably eat me.. 😀
I founded a nonprofit organization years back which deals with cleaning the coast and seabed here in Italy. So, the turtle kind of stuck with me.
Let me know if you need any further help.
Take care,
David

No, I owe U big so I wouldn't eat you ! I used to camp out with a Couple of Friends on a Beach on the Gulf of Mexico in SouthWest Florida to Protect the Sea Turtle Eggs. Seeing those little guys from A distance thru Binoculars as they come out of the eggs & waddle on down to the Surf was a Special Treat in My Life. Some people would come& try to Steal some eggs from the Mother's Nest and that's Killing A Baby Turtle for no good use or Good Reason. Just a Tent with a Lantern in it was enough to deter them. Thanks Once Again for Your Plu-Perfect Help !! I will get the 870 by Samsung ! God Bless You Iomare !!
