This is a tough question. We have it on good authority from HP that even if you replace a part that is considered not customer accessible, HP will not void the warranty PROVIDED the replacement is done without any damage to the rest of the laptop. This is not in writing anywhere but makes sense. However, you do kind of open yourself up if you replace the hard drive and 3 months later the motherboard goes out. The technicians who work on the motherboard will be able to tell it has been opened and if anything at all is out of place they might just say the motherboard problem is something you created while replacing the hard drive. So upgrades do come with some risk. Generally, HP Service Centers will not install 3rd party parts. Some exceptions have been reported so I guess it is just how friendly they feel that day. And non-warranty service at an HP Service Center is going to cost quite a bit. On this model the hard drive access is fairly easy, and does not rquire removal of the top cover or motherboard, just removal of the bottom cover from the underside. If it were my laptop I would not hesitate to do the upgrade, but I would not install an SSHD. Speed increase is not that overwhelming as it is with a full-on SSD.

Hi,
You can upgrade to the Seagate Firecuda SSHD. If you do it by yourself you will void the warranty if you still have one on PC. It will increase the evryday performance of the PC. Here you can see in the service manual how it is done.

You will need to reinstall Windows 10 on the PC after change of Hard drive. There are a few ways how to do this.
-Download media creation tool from Microsoft and create a bootable USB drive with Windows 10. It will be automatically activated once installed.
-Migrate an image to new Hard drive before replacing.
-Creating HP recovery media USB drive and reinstalling once changed hard drive.
Let me know if you need further help,
David

Hi,
It is considered a non accessible and non upgradeable part for the consumer, so it will void your extendible warranty unless you get it done by HP service center.
Here are an example of disks on amazon where you can see the codes.
Hope it helps,
David

Hi,
Get in contact with the closest authorized HP service centre and see if they are willing to change the drive in this fashion. In the future if the computer ever totally breaks down and is sent for repairs usually the hard drive is removed anyway for privacy reasons.

They are customer non-serviceable parts and if you open the PC and change them you will void the warranty.
If a service HP authorized center decides to use a different part you will not void warranty. Anyway i BELIEVE THE SEAGATE hard drives have a warranty of 3 or 5 years.

Suppose I replace harddisk with seagate, if it doesn't work then I will look for seagate service.
But if I replace harddisk and in future anything goes wrong with either RAM, processor, IC, keyboard etc.. will HP provide me service under warranty?
