I have an HP elitebook 840 G3 with Core i5 6300U Processor but I want to upgrade it to I5-6300HQ / I5-9400F / I7-6300.

I know that the processor is fixed to motherboard.but can I replace the motherboard with the best from above 3 options???

Hi,

On page 72 of the service manual you can see the various motherboards with part number compatible with your model. You add 601 at the end of part number for a motherboard with Windows product key embedded or 001 for no Windows key embedded.

The best would be

Intel i7-6600U for HP EliteBook 850; UMA graphics memory        part number 832424-601

which has integrated graphics.

or

Intel i7-6600U for HP EliteBook 850; discrete graphics memory     part number 832429-601

for one which has a dedicated graphics card. If your notebook does not have dedicated graphics at the moment you will also need to replace the heat sink assembly.

You try finding a refurbished motherboard online by searching with part number.

Hope it helps,

David
