Hello,
I bought a Victus laptop FA0998TX. I searched but did not find the product manual. Where can I get this? Also I want to upgrade my storage to 1TB. So what kind of HDD I need to put in? And can I keep my existing 512GB too?
Also if you can show me the link to the HDD to buy, it will be really helpful.
Help please.
Thanks

Hello.
The product manuals can be downloaded from HP website at https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/setup-user-guides/victus-by-hp-15.6-inch-gaming-laptop-15-fa000...
Your laptop is part of the "Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fa0000" series, so you will not find a manual especially made for 15-fa0998TX. There are several different Victus 15 laptop configurations - with different GPU, memory, hard drive, display CPU, keyboard language (etc, etc) - all combinations have their own unique product number.
Your laptop can house a single M.2 PCIe SSD at a time. So when you replace the 512GB drive, it will be unused. There are external USB enclosures where you can put the old drive and access it that way. However, your laptop however only sports USB 3 Gen1 ports which will severely limit the full potential of the SSD drive. It will work, but will be many times slower than the internal drive, so games should not be installed there.
Optimal replacement SSD drive should be of type M.2 2280 PCIe 4 x4.
- "M.2 2280" denotes the physical width and length of the card, and your laptop will only accept the 2280 size;
- "PCIe 4" means it is 4th generation PCIe;
- The 'x4' means it will use 4 PCIe lanes for data transfer.
PCIe 4x4 equates to a about 4GB/s theoretical maximum speed. You can also buy PCIe 3 era drives, but their theoretical speeds are only half of PCIe 4. x2 drives are also available but they also halve the speed. So I recommend a PCIe 4 x4 SSD.
There are multiple M.2 2280 PCIe 4x4 SSD's with 1TB to 8TB to choose from, from many different manufacturers. These types of drives should be available from all computer stores. Any drive that has those specifications will do, as long as it does not come with a heat sink, because an SSD with heat sink will not fit into your laptop.
Refer to the HP Maintenance and Service guide in how to open the laptop case and replace the drive.
