Would the samsung 970 evo plus nvme M.2 work on this laptop since it has a nvme slot and could I upgrade this ram to 32gb?

Hi:

Yes, you can install a NVMe SSD such as the Samsung 970 (though I recommend the newer Samsung 980, or Western Digital Blue SN570).

Below is the link to the service manual.  Chapter 1 has the supported drive types and memory upgrade info.

HP 17 Laptop PC Maintenance and Service Guide

Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates the max memory is 2 x 8 GB.

On most HP notebooks with the Intel 8th gen core processors and two memory slots, you can install 2 x 16 GB of memory.

You can do this to see how much memory your notebook can support:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

Would the Samsung 980 pro work also or just the regular samsung 980?

HP Recommended

Unless you plan on moving the 980 Pro to a PC that has a NVMe slot that is PCIe Gen 4.0, I would stick with the Gen 3.0 980.

The Gen 4 980 Pro would work but only at the same speed the 980 would give you.

Would a ram of 3200 mhz work or just 2666 mhz ram?

A DDR4-3200 memory chip will work fine and it will automatically bridge to 2400 MHz to match the fastest speed your noteobok's Intel® Core™ i5-8250U processor can run the memory at.

I have another question, can i change the whole keyboard and palmrest to one with a backlit keyboard?

Hi:

I recommend you start a new topic on that subject because I don't know if it is possible, or what it entails if it is.

The good news is that chapter 3 of the service manual that I posted for you the other day does show the model series can come with a backlit keyboard and they have the list on page 17, if you have a notebook with one of those colors.

Keyboard, backlit, tranquil pink (available only with -001 United States keyboards) L28089-001
Keyboard, backlit, iridescent pale rose gold (available only with -001 United States keyboards) L28090-001
Keyboard, backlit, iridescent ceramic white (available only with -001 United States keyboards) L28091-001
