I would like to install add an ssd to my 15-en0023dx laptop's open M.2 slot as well as increase my Ram from 16 to 64 gb. I am having a hard time finding the specs of my motherboard to determine if the M.2 is gen 3 or gen 4. Also I want to make sure that the motherboard will take 64 gb of ram (32 gb X 2 ). Thank you.

Hi:
The M.2 slots in your notebook are PCIe Gen 3.0.
Since notebook processors are integral parts of the motherboard, you can look up the processor specs on the AMD and Intel websites (as applicable) and it will tell you the PCIe generation connectivity.
Your notebook's processor info can be found at the link below.
Memory: Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates the max memory is 2 x 8 GB of DDR4-3200.
Maintenance and Service Guide (hp.com)
You can do this to see how much memory your notebook can support:
1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.
This will open the command prompt.
2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.
There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.
The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.
I'm pretty sure you will find that it supports 2 x 16 GB of DDR4-3200 memory.

You're very welcome.
It may be possible to install 2 x 32 GB in your notebook, but I could not find any posts on this forum where some actually installed 64 GB and reported it worked in that model series.
The Crucial memory report is almost always correct but not to 100%.
I suppose if you bought one 32 GB chip and added it to one of the existing 8 GB chips and it worked, then you could probably install the second 32 GB chip successfully, provided Crucial/Amazon would take a return on the 32 GB chips if they didn't work.
