Hi @d3rp0,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The error code 10 with an I2C HID device typically indicates that the device cannot start due to a driver issue or hardware problem. Here's how you can troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue with your touchpad:
Step 1: Restart Your Computer
- Restart:
- Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve driver and hardware issues.
Step 2: Update or Reinstall the Touchpad Driver
Update Driver:
- Right-click the Start menu and select Device Manager.Expand the Mice and other pointing devices section.
- Right-click on your touchpad device (it might be listed as I2C HID Device or something similar) and select Update driver.Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
Reinstall Driver:
- If updating doesn’t work, try reinstalling the driver.
- In Device Manager, right-click the touchpad device and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your computer, and Windows should attempt to reinstall the driver automatically.
Download Driver from HP:
- Visit your website (e.g., HP) and search for the latest touchpad driver for your specific model.
- Download and install the driver manually.
Step 3: Check for Windows Updates
- Install Updates:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.Click Check for updates and install any available updates.
Step 4: Check Device Settings
- Check Touchpad Settings:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.Ensure the touchpad is enabled and check for any configuration settings that might affect its operation.
Step 5: Run Hardware Troubleshooter
- Run Troubleshooter:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
- Select Additional troubleshooters and then select Hardware and Devices.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to detect and fix any hardware issues.
Step 6: Check for BIOS/UEFI Updates
- Update BIOS/UEFI:
- Sometimes updating the BIOS/UEFI can resolve hardware compatibility issues.
- Visit your laptop’s manufacturer website to check if there is a BIOS/UEFI update available and follow the instructions for updating it.
Step 7: Check for Conflicting Devices
- Check Device Conflicts:
- In Device Manager, ensure there are no other devices with errors or conflicts.Sometimes conflicts with other devices can cause issues with the touchpad.
Step 8: Perform a System Restore
- Use System Restore:
- If the issue started recently, you can use System Restore to roll back to a previous state.Go to Control Panel > System and Security > System.Click System protection and then System Restore.Follow the prompts to restore your system to a point before the issue began.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
