HP ENVY ULTRABOOK 4
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a HP envy 4 ultrabook. I would like to know if it has a solid state drive. If not, is its motherboard compatible with solid state drives? Which ones?

Hi,

Can you provide the exact model number of your notebook for further help. Here is HP support page showing how to find it.

OK. Your PC has a "500GB 5400RPM hard drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection". It also has 32 GB mSATA SSD which is used as a cache drive hard drive acceleration. So it works together with hard drive to speed things up.

Now the best choice for you would be to remove the mSATA drive and the mechanical hard drive and then install a 2.5" SATA3 SSD such as the Samsung 860evo or similar of your desired capacity. Then reinstall the OS on the SSD.

On page 46 of service manual you can see how to remove and replace the drives:

Hope it helps,

David
