Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a hp laptop at pavilion touch screen 15 Notebook. I believe it's a 4th generation I've got it way back.  It has been working properly all this time until my hard drive had issues so I bought an SSD but I cannot install Windows 10. According to some research material that I saw online I discovered there's something called Intel rapid storage Technology driver. I can't find one  for my laptop ... isn't there a universal driver for this problem? I also looked online for  other alternative ways to install my operating system and I had no luck. What can I do?

It seems like you're experiencing issues installing Windows 10 on your HP Pavilion Touchscreen 15 Notebook after replacing your hard drive with an SSD. The Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST) driver is typically related to the management of storage devices, especially when using RAID configurations. However, it's not always necessary for installing Windows 10 on a standard single SSD configuration.

Here are some steps you can try to install Windows 10 on your new SSD:

  1. Prepare a Bootable Windows 10 USB Drive:

    • Download the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool from the official Microsoft website.
    • Use the tool to create a bootable USB drive with the Windows 10 installation files on it.
  2. BIOS/UEFI Settings:

    • Make sure your laptop is set to boot from the USB drive. You can usually access the BIOS/UEFI settings by pressing a specific key (often F2, F12, or Delete) during startup. Check your laptop's manual or HP's website for the exact key.
  3. Install Windows 10:

    • Insert the bootable USB drive into your laptop.
    • Boot from the USB drive.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows 10 on your SSD.
  4. Drivers and Software:

    • After Windows 10 is installed, you may need to install specific drivers and software for your laptop to work correctly. Visit HP's official website and enter your laptop's model number to find the necessary drivers and software.
  5. Intel RST (Optional):

    • If you still believe you need the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver, visit the HP support website and search for your laptop's model number along with the RST driver. Download and install it if available.
  6. Check for BIOS/UEFI Updates:

    • Sometimes, updating your laptop's BIOS/UEFI to the latest version can help with compatibility issues during the installation process. Check HP's website for BIOS updates for your laptop.
  7. Contact HP Support:

    • If you continue to encounter problems, consider contacting HP support for assistance. They may be able to provide specific guidance based on your laptop's model.

Remember to back up any important data before proceeding with the installation, as it involves formatting the SSD. Also, ensure that your SSD is properly recognized in the BIOS/UEFI settings before attempting to install Windows.

To resolve Windows 10 installation issues on your HP laptop with an SSD:

  1. Access BIOS/UEFI settings and set SATA mode to "AHCI."
  2. Download the generic Intel RST driver from Intel's website.
  3. Perform a clean Windows 10 installation using a bootable USB drive.
  4. Contact HP support for specific driver guidance if needed.

Ensure data backup and SSD connection before reinstalling Windows.

Hi, @staticfrost

Windows should have no problem installing on a PC with an Intel Core i5-4200U processor.

Something else must be wrong, but what that could be, I have no idea.

FWIW, I have zipped up and attached the Intel storage controller drivers for the 4th gen core processors, below.

Unzip the file I attached and copy the driver folder to a USB flash drive.

Plug the flash drive into one of your PC's available USB ports.

When you are at the screen that reports that Windows cannot find any drives, click on the Load driver option.

Browse to the USB flash drive with the storage controller driver files on it.

If you check the box, it will only include the compatible driver.

Click Next, and hopefully Windows will install.

I tried that driver. still same problem. Is there one for Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST)?

I can't see that option on my BIOS. (rev. 3.7)

What I gave you is the IRST driver.

Like I wrote yesterday, W10 should have installed on your notebook with no problem.  No need for storage drivers.

I have a HP 350 G1 notebook with the i3-4005U processor and I have clean installed W10 and W11 on it several times with no problem.

So, whatever the problem is, unfortunately I can't help you with it.

  1. Laptop Manufacturer's Website: Visit the official website of your laptop's manufacturer and search for drivers using your laptop's model number.

  2. Check SSD Compatibility: SSDs generally don't require separate drivers. Ensure your SSD is compatible with your laptop.

  3. Update Windows: Make sure your Windows operating system is up-to-date, as it often includes generic drivers for SSDs.

  4. Contact Support: If you can't find the necessary drivers, consider contacting your laptop's customer support for assistance.
