Pavilion bc406tx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I own pavilion bc406tx laptop. It doesn't have option to limit charging upto certain percentage.. I wanted to know the ideal percentage upto which I should charge my laptop battery. I've read that charging it upto 100% regularly decreases battery life. Is it true?? Also is it recommended to still play games or heavy graphic task after battery has been fuuly charged while plugged in?

@Anand_Nakat,

Thank you for posting your query on HP Community,

The option your are looking is available on certain laptops. This option would be available on the Bios screen.

  1. Turn on or restart the computer.
  2. While the display is blank, press the f10 key to enter the BIOS settings menu.
  3. You can check for Battery Care Function which should be available either on System Configuration or Advanced Tab
  4. If available use the keyboard to either select 100%, 80% or 50%

For some reason if the option is not available you can try updating the bios on your PC either from our HP support website using this link or download it using HP support Assistant.

To download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.

Now boot the computer into the Bios and check if the option is available. If the option is not available. I'm afraid then your notebook does not support Battery care function.

Does overcharging reduce battery life of laptop? The only thing to take care about is that the battery doesn't get heated a lot. At higher temperatures, all electrical devices age faster. It is a common myth that overcharging reduces battery life. But the truth is that your laptop or your smartphone stops charging after the battery reaches 100%

I hope this helps. Let me know if you need any further assistance. I'll be more than happy to help you.
