Loud noise on the right side off and on, just started today. It isn't the speakers because I muted the speakers and I kept hearing the whirring sound. Can't find a way to run  diagnostic on hardware, seems like its just software. Windows Security says everything is good. Sound will trigger when I play a video, but then I pause the video I can still hear it for  bit, if i keep a video running the noise persists, almost like the sound of TV snow. This has never happened before.

Hi Irwin6

Really weird, the grinding noise was persistent the last few days, so much that I couldn't use zoom, watch youtube or a play a game without hearing it. The laptop wasn't overheating as the top above the keyboard usually gets really hot when it does and it wasn't. So I thought it was a mechanical failure of the fan or some hardware.  Then today I turn on my computer and I don't hear it anymore, I'm more annoyed that I don't know what caused it or how it fixed itself, but I still went through some trouble shooting.

I tried using your link to update BIOS and I had no luck, the only options for Windows OS I could select were Windows 11  and Windows 11 21H2, and I have Windows 11 23H2 (Build 22631.2715).  I forget where I stumbled upon this but I did have better luck using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics. For some reason I think a BIOS update was available in there as well as some sort of Video driver update? But whenever I checked my regular system settings it said all of my software was up to date. It would be easier if everything was integrated into one app instead of System settings, HP Support, HP Command, and HP Diagnostic, you have to know these programs exist and do a lot of detective work to figure out if something is wrong. Anyway, I'm going to reset my computer so my drivers take effect. I hope that helps everything.

I forgot to mention this, I also didn't see a Quiet option in my Thermal profile, it just was blank where the option should've been.

I had a long reply and it looked like it disappeared?
The grinding stopped this morning and I have no idea how it fixed itself.  The Quiet option in my thermal settings was not available on my computer. It wasn't overheating because the computer wasn't getting hot in the top speaker, just really noisy and the left fan was doing fine.
The BIOS link you sent me didn't work because the only options for OS that I had were Win11 and Win11 21H2 and I have Win11 23H2. System setting said everything was updated. But I did stumble upon HP Hardware Diagnostics (which I couldn't find the other day when trying to find ways to test my hardware...why is everything so buried? And why does HP have 3 separate support apps? Integrate them into 1!) Anyway, I ran all the tests and I believe that program detected a BIOS update and some sort of Video Driver update. Weird. But I will reset my computer so these can take effect. I hope it worked.
