HP USB-C Dock G5

I've recently purchased an HP USB-C Dock G5 to use with a HP EliteBook 840 G5 Base Model Notebook PC to run two Dell U2719D ultrasharp displays (that should operate at 2560x1440). When I connect them to the docking station using either two DisplayPort 1.4 cables or one DisplayPort 1.4 and one HDMI cable I get the same problem, which is that only one of these monitors is able to run at the maximum resolution and the second runs at a far lower resolution.

I checked with HP prior to ordering the unit and was assured that the Docking station would work with my configuration.Since receiving the docking station I've spoken with Tech support at HP who still maintain that this docking station should work OK with my configuration and blamed the DELL monitors. Since this time, I have discovered that it may be due to my current laptop only supporting DisplayPort 1.2/HBR2 over USB-C. If this is the case then it would explain the problem, since this would cut my video bandwidth in half. I've seen that DisplayPort 1.2 would be expected to be limited to dual displays of up to 1920x1200 each. My strong suspicion is that the G5 dock was never going to be compatible with my setup and I should return the uint. Am I correct?

What is the actual product number(SKU) of your notebook?
You can get that information from system information, invoked by typing MSINFO in a search box and clicking on the system information app that appears above.

According to the marketing material from HP, your notebook PC is compatible with the G5 dock.

Without casting shade on any brand, my personal philosophy is that if I am not satisfied, I return a product and look elsewhere.

My own preference would have been a Samsung 4k display.

The specifications for the base notebook say that the HP Slim dock is compatible. It is inexpensive and may be worth a shot.
