HP Notebook - 15-dw0083wm

Hello!  I purchased my HP Notebook in 2020, and as far as I can remember I didn't go all out with customizing the order.  It was purchased mainly to do transcription work and after a few months I gave up on it.  At this point it holds photos, word documents, and various PDFs I've been emailed over the past 6 years.

I've recently started my own business.  I am trying to use the laptop more now, but I am experiencing significant lagging with start up, I can't have multiple tabs opened for internet browsing or in Adobe or Microsoft Word as I am drafting my own contracts and templates for my business.

I've deleted temporary files and moved files to an external USB drive.  It helped somewhat.

According to my settings:

Intel Pentium Silver @ 1.10 GHz for processor

RAM 4.0 GB installed at 2400 MHz

Storage is 119 GB (98 GB being used)

Based on what I have found on YouTube, I'm thinking I need to upgrade the RAM?

Where do I even begin on looking for RAM that is compatible for my laptop?  I've tried searching Google and Amazon, and of course it has all of these alphanumeric characters behind the RAM size. One search said I can only go up to 8GB RAM for my particular laptop(?). I figure 8 GB is better than the 4GB I currently have.  But how do I determine the best RAM to purchase?  I try searching HP's website for "RAM" and "memory" and get no results for my search.  What should I be typing in the search bar to purchase RAM?

Thanks!

@faesterly,

The service manual (on page 2) indicates that your model with an Intel Pentium Silver comes with a single memory slot supporting max 8 GB DDR4-2400 MT/s memory.

Maintenance and Service Guide HP 15 Laptop PC

You can remove the current 4 GB RAM and install an 8 GB memory module. You can use DDR4-2666 or 3200, but the system will run at 2400 as that is the max speed your processor can support.

Page 39 of the manual shows how to replace the memory.

Crucial 8 GB DDR4-3200 CL22 memory is a good choice.

Crucial 8GB DDR4 RAM 3200MHz (PC4-25600), Downclockable to 2933/2666MHz Laptop Memory, SODIMM 260-Pi...
