Hello
I want to upgrade my RAM memory from 4 to 6 gb on my laptop. I have bought a sodimm KTH-X3CL/4G that is a 1066 Mhz HP/Compaq compatible memory. When i change the memory in the laptop it doesen't ask or say that the memory has changed as it does on my desktops and when it starts windows (or Linux i tried both) it just shuts down. If i check the system info in bios it says it has 6 gb ram. Why doesen't it start the OS.
Tanks

No that memory is neither 1066 Mhz nor is it specifically HP/Compaq compatible memory; the KTH-X3CL/4G is DDR3L-1600 1.35 volt high density SO-DIMM, not DDR3-1333 1.5 volt low density which is what you need:
Very simply you have installed incompatible memory. On some systems it would be OK but HP notebooks with the 1st gen Intel Core processor are very very finicky and demand very specific memory to work. Your max memory is 8 gigs as you likely know
2 customer-accessible/upgradable memory module slots
Supports up to 8192 GB of system RAM DDR3 1333-MHz, PC3-10600
Supports the following configurations:
●
8192-MB total system memory (4096 × 2)
and this is the right chip:
4 GB
599092-002

Thansk for the aswer
I have the same problem with my other SODIMM memory KCP313SS8/4.
According to Kingstons site it is a DDR3-1333MHz (PC3-10600) speed, 1.5v Voltage Memory.

But it is high density 4 black blocks on the side not 8...back when they came out, HP laptops with the first gen Intel Core processors caused buckets of ink to be spilled here because they are so stubborn about memory that will and will not work. Has to be DDR3-1333 1.5 volt LOW density.
