OMEN 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-ae0000 (9J127AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Essentially, I had ordered the wf1096tx Shadow Black version of HP Omen, yet I was delivered the ae0002tx variant. Knowing that they had the same CPU and GPU specs, I accepted the delivery, but I need to know if there have been any major tradeoffs in this purchase, given the fact that I have been delivered a different model.

Could any information regarding their official release dates, as in the Indian subcontinent, be provided?

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Hi @Aditya2344,

Thank you for your follow-up.

The OMEN by HP 16.1-inch Gaming Laptop PC – 16-ae0000 series (which includes model ae0002tx) was officially released on June 26, 2024.

So to clarify, the ae0002tx model is actually a more recent release compared to the wf1096tx model, which was launched on March 20, 2024. Both models may share similar core specifications like CPU and GPU, but the ae0002tx, being a later release, might include minor design, thermal, or firmware optimizations. For an exact feature comparison.

I hope this provides the clarity you needed. If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out!

Hi @Aditya2344,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

The OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop – 16-wf1000 series (which includes model wf1096tx) was officially released on March 20, 2024.

If you’ve received a different model (like the ae0002tx) than what you originally ordered, I recommend contacting your point of purchase directly for clarification or possible resolution. They’ll be able to assist you further with replacement or exchange options if needed.

I hope this helps.

Thanks again for the reply. But could you also provide the release date of the ae0002tx model of HP Omen 16. As I said, my main concern is to know if there have been any major trade offs in this purchase and I need to know if this model is an older release of Omen 16 as compared to wf1096tx model.

That indeed is a great news. Thanks for your assistance. That doesn't clear things up for me.

I had this suspicion of it being an older model because it looked oddly similar to the HP Victus lineup, not only in the build quality but also possibly in the thermals i.e. cooling systems and fans. Because from my usage, I have found that it cannot handle and sustain the CPU at full load for a very long time, and always hits the throttle temperature limit (instantly crossing the 98°C mark, even on max fan speeds and elevated bottom), decreasing the power and subsequently the performance of the CPU. I do not expect this from the "Premium" lineup of HP I.e. the Omen series. Also, there almost no review videos of this model on the internet, with perhaps the wf1096tx model being bought more. So, I was doubting if this was a test model that just didn't work in the market. Did it really sell?

I was confused with this model as well, As you mentioned the degraded performance, are there any other major flaws?

Thank you!

I have not seen the wf1096tx model, so I am not the right person to do the comparison. But, from the usage in past 2-3 weeks, I can say that there aren't any "major" design flaws. Except the speaker lacks the crispness and the hinge is not very smooth but rather more tight. You know that test: if you can open a laptop with just one hand, it lies in a premium category (even though I think other factors matter too).

The overall build quality is ok, but not something you would expect from the premium lineup of an established and almost 100 year old company. I would suggest you to rather go for the wf1096tx model as that has more premium looks and ports. Buy this one only if there is a huge price difference.
