Hi
I received my Envy x360 13 in the mail this week. Setup and everything worked fine, but the first thing I noticed was how short the battery life was. HP's product page claims up to 11 hours for the Ryzen CPU models, and I expected somewhere between 5 and 7 hours of actual use. However, doing just some basic web browsing and other non-intensive programs such as Word (not even playing video), I've been getting under 4 hours of battery life, with the battery going from 100% to 66% (displayed 75% before I ran a battery check) within the span of an hour and a half. By no means was I expecting a massive battery life considering the size of the laptop, but at this rate it would barely last through two classes which is frankly unacceptable. This is with a steady wifi connection, the screen brightness at 25% or 50%, battery saver on, and the battery options set to a balanced power plan through Windows and the optimized option in the HP Command Center. I've already run a battery test that came up with "passed" and have installed the latest BIOS I could find.
I am extremely disappointed by this, as I would really like to love this laptop otherwise, but the awful battery life. especially when compared to HP's claims, makes it completely unusable for anyone.
Edit: I reinstalled the battery ACPI driver and that has helped a bit but still within an hour and a half the battery level has dropped to under 70% (battery saver on, 25% brightness, just drawing and doing some light web browsing.)

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!
I understand you are having issues with battery not working as it's supposed to be on your HP notebook. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Did this happen after a recent software update or upgrade?
Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the battery drivers from device manager?
Have you tried to update the Bios?
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
Perform a Hard reset on the notebook: A power reset (or hard restart) clears all information from the computer's memory without erasing any personal data. Performing a power reset might fix conditions such as Windows not responding, a blank display, software freezing, keyboard stops responding, or other external devices locking up.
Next thing, please try these few steps to enhance battery life.
- Make sure that the Windows 10 power plan is set to Balanced Performance to conserve battery power
- Consider which programs you are running; some programs, like graphics-intensive games, will deplete the battery faster
- .Reduce the convertible’s screen brightness to conserve battery power
- Remove peripherals like external hard drives from the convertible while they are not is use
Please follow the steps to uninstall Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control from Device manager:
Unplug the charge and use the laptop until the battery drains to 15%.
Turn off the laptop and turn it back on after 30mins.
Reinstall Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager,
Restart the computer and the issue should be fixed.
Also, Go through them all and let me know what you have determined is causing the issue. The first document has the most relevant troubleshooting if your battery appears to be not charging.
I would suggest please update the Bios and Chipset drivers on your PC from our HP support website, using this link: http://hp.com/drivers Select the country and language. Enter the product# and follow the on-screen instructions.
Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.
Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.
Battery Does not Power Notebook or Hold a Charge
HP Notebook PCs - Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows 10) (Skip the steps if you have already performed).
Next thing, I would suggest here is to run the test on the battery from F2.(Click on Component test - Scroll down to Power)
Please remember to capture the failure ID for further assistance.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you.

My Laptop is getting about 4 hours of active use also. I did see there are apps running in the background that may be effecting performance. Does anyone have the Intel or ARM version of this notebook to see if they also have lower than expected battery life. My understanding is that the Intel CPU in this system comes configued with Modern Standby to improve battery life.
Also,
Has anyone checked the performance of this system while on battery ?
It is not equivelent to the measured performance on AC.

Yes,
I went through all steps this morning and now testing to see how many hour I can get from one full charge.
What is your expectation of the number of hours I should expect while using Office and surfing the Web with Chrome ?
Also, whay is the expectation of my system performance and responsivness while on battery ?
Should it be as good as when plugged into the wall ?
Thanks
Paul

Thanks for the reply --
I'd already tried each of those solutions to try and fix my issue prior to posting, and I ran through them once again just to make sure. Still no change in battery life. What would be the next step?
Thanks

Hi--
Thanks for the reply. I mentioned in my initial post that I'd already done most of the things that I see you reccommend in your linked post. I've been keeping the screen at 25% brightness, uninstalled anything that I didn't need, reinstalled the battery drivers, as well as turning battery saver mode on when the device is not plugged in. All of that still only gives under 5 hours of battery life when I'm doing simple tasks like basic web browsing or OneNote. Is it maybe just a faulty battery or is this normal?

Thank you for replying,
I did some research on your concern and here's what the approximate battery life designated for certain tasks are:
Video Playback & Battery Life:
- Up to 6 hours and 30 minutes with FHD panel,
- Up to 5 hours and 30 minutes with UHD panel
According to the hp store website: Click here to verify
That said, you've already done the test that has passed, so it's not a hardware issue, however, if you don't feel like this is up to the mark or you aren't satisfied with the same, write back to me and I'll give it my best to help you out.

Thanks again for the response -
So if I'm understanding correctly, with my changes to try and increase the battery life along with using less demanding programs, the battery doesn't last as long as the predicted time for video playback, even though there's no hardware problem?
The current state of things makes this unusable for class if I'll have to carry the charger with me and it doesn't meet my expectations when I purchased the device.
