I was given a WD Blue 3D NAND Sata SSD for Christmas and I've just started looking at fitting it into my HP Envy laptop.  I can see the M2 slot but before I actually fit it, 2 questions:

1 - Would it be compatible with my laptop and

2 - If it is, do I need to change anything in the BIOS (can you?) or would it just "work"?

@ForteanJo
Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

I see you need help in upgrading the SSD, on HP ENVY - 17-ae108ca  notebook. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you.

After reading your post, I did go through the Product specifications of your product and found that you have 1 TB 7200 rpm SATA hard drive installed on the PC.

Next thing, I would suggest here is to go through the Maintenance and Service guide of your HP notebook, and found that your PC supports M.2 slot for the solid-state drive.

To get the answer to this question, Yes!  it is compatible and changes can be done in bios.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below,

Excellent, thanks for that.  So, can I ask a follow up question?

I've fitted the new drive but I can't find anywhere in the bios (or anywhere else) to enable the drive.   Any suggestions?

Let's try updating the bios,

Download and install updates to the computer BIOS. This process is also known as 'flashing the BIOS'. Click here

Thanks for the speedy response.

So, I've updated the bios to the latest I can find (F.50) but still no joy.  I just can't see anywhere in the bios that allows me to configure the hard drives in the machine.
