Hp Envy 15-ae004nl
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, i want to install a m.2 ssd on my hp envy 15 ae-004nl, to work toghether with the installed 1TB (5400) HDD.

I've read that some hp envy 15 users cannot have their m.2 ssds recognised by the BIOS so before buying i thought it was better to ask some experts.

On the maintenance service guide the following is reported:

"Support for M.2 SATA storage (Port 0)"

and

" Dual Storage Configurations (models with i7 processors and 4 GB discrete graphics memory only)
1TB (5400) 9.5mm + 256GB M.2 SATA SSD (TLC) "

So i was asking if the following products are compatible with my laptop:

https://www.amazon.it/Crucial-MX300-Solid-State-Interno/dp/B01IAGSDJ0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1477838...

https://www.amazon.it/Samsung-MZ-N5E250BW-850-EVO-Verde/dp/B00TGIVZTW/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1477838...

Thanks for your attention,
Francesco.

OK. I missed that.

So do the following specifications match what you notebook has installed?

Includes Intel Core i7-5500U processor and 4 GB of discrete graphics memory.

The upgrade may work as long as you ensure that the SSD candidate is 2280 and TLC memory. I wouldn't try a Samsung NVMe SSD. The BIOS in your notebook won't recognize NVMe types as being installed.

The Samsung that you asked about has what Samsung called V-Nand memory. I am unsure as to whether that one would work.

That manual is probably for the 15 and 17 Inch Envy notebooks. The 17" models have enough space for two drives, but the 15" versions are unlikely to have enough room inside.

Use the HP Partsurfer to see if there is an M.2 drive available for your specific notebook. Use the notebook's serial number. You can get the serial # from the BIOS or the HP Support Assistant.

Thank you for the reply!
The m.2 ssd slot is present in the notebook (i have opened it to check, following the schematics in the maintenance guide) .

I was asking for the compatibility, now i will follow your suggestion

I've tried to search my serial number in HP PartSurfer but no results were found...

No additional information for CND5255CP6  found in PartSurfer. Please read the hints below, and try again.

I perused the manual.

The manual is interesting. It states that M.2 SSD (TLC) can be used in the notebooks that have an Intel Core i7-5500U processor and 4 GB discrete graphics memory.

There are no M.2 SSD drives listed in the illustrated part section of the notebook's manual.

I suggest that an attempt to upgrade to a component type that is not listed in the illustrated parts breakdown would be a financial risk.

In the illustrated part section it says:

(12) Solid-state drive (M.2)

component                                    spare part num.

256 GB                                             812708-001
128 GB, 2280 M.2                        829985-001
128 GB (Best Buy SKUs)            820547-001

I don't understand if those are just ssd that can be sold with the notebook, or if it means that i can buy only 256/128 Gb ssd.

My PC has i7 with 4Gb discrete graphics, it has the m.2 slot but i'm still not sure about the compatibility.

Thanks for your time,  erico.
