I opened the computer to do this upgrade and I wouldn't necessarily recommend this upgrade due to the complexity. The new keyboard fully works, except the function key for backlighting doesn't do anything. When I installed my new keyboard everything went well and it even had a slot for the backlighting to plug in. However, since my computer didn't originally come with a backlight keyboard, I believe that I need to make a change to the bios or install a new keyboard driver. My current keyboard driver is the "Standard PS/2 Keyboard". Any help would be appreciated.

I suggest installing the updated BIOS and the recent Chipset driver software.
Since your laptop has a UEFI BIOS this is safe to do.
BIOS Update
Chipset driver
Have you done the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI utility keyboard test to ensure that all keys work properly?
Is the keyboard/top cover flat ribbon cable fully seated?
The flat ribbon cable needs to be all the way in to the ZIF connector up to the line.
