HP ENVY m4 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I upgraded my Memory from 8 GB (the purchase default) to 16 GB. However, the PC does not recognize the change.

Here is a summary of the relevant information:

1. Memory Type: DDR3

2. Memory Speed: 1600 MHz

3. Channel Type: Dual channel

4. Frequency Speed: 1600 MHz (PC3-12800)

5. Number of slots: 2

6. Max. support: 16 GB

7. Original memory:  2 modules of 4 GB each

8. New memory: 2 modules of 8 GB each

I checked that the new memory cards were compatible: they are DDR3, compatible with 1600 MHz, Dual Chanel, same Freq Speed.

When I turned on the computer, it booted normally, but when I checked the new RAM it only recognized one slot with 8 GB, but not the other. I thought it might be a BIOS problem, but in the HP Support webpage, they only have drivers for Windows 8 or 8.1, but my laptop has had Windows 10 for a long time now (although it originally came with Windows 8).

Hi,

In BIOS does it see the 16GB of RAM?

You should try one stick at a time in each slot and try to figure out if one of  the sticks is defective or one of the slots.

Let me know,

David

Hi David,

I opened up my laptop again and I noticed that one of the sticks was not connected properly. Thank you for your help!
