PAVILION 15-au102ne
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello every body.

I have a PAVILION 15-au102ne laptop and I want to install a SSD hard drive on my laptop. I'm going to install PCIe SSD not SATA SSD. I searched in the internet and I found different types of PCIe SSD drives. Some of them have two ways port like SSD 500GB Kioxia Exceria m.2 NVMe 2280 [LRC10Z500GG8] and some others have three ways port like: Western Digital WDS500G1R0B WD RED NAS SSD M.2 SATA, 500 GB which has made me a little confused. So, I have some questions:

  1. The idea of replacing optic drive with SSD SATA is better or installing PCIe SSD?
  2. Dose my laptop support PCIe SSD?
  3. There are some options for PCIe SSD, which ones should I note?
  4. 4. Which brand do you suggest to be economic and good working.

I need to mention, I'm not a gamer or a professional user. I'm a PhD student who is disappointed in his laptop speed.

Thank you in advance.

Hi:

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

HP Pavilion Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide

If your notebook has a M.2 slot, the slot only supports SATA M.2 SSD's not NVMe.

You should open up the notebook first before buying a M.2 SSD because on a lot of notebook's made during the time yours was made, the M.2 slot was only included if the notebook came with a M.2 SSD from the factory..

If you look at chapter 3 of the manual, the M.2 SSD slot is a separate, removable part.

There will be no difference in performance between a 2.5" SSD and a M.2 SATA SSD.

If you find that your notebook has a M.2 slot, this 500 GB M.2 SSD would provide the best performance for the price.

WD Blue 3D NAND SATA SSD Unità allo Stato Solido Interna M.2, 500 GB: Amazon.it: Informatica

I would not recommend installing a SSD in place of the optical drive because the drive controller may only be SATA II and not SATA III.
