Pavilion 15-aw017no
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Dear forum, I've got a really basic question about whether or not it is even possible on this Pavillion 15 laptop to install an additional internal hard drive for increased storage while still keeping the original SSD in place?

I've done this for desktops before but haven't been able to find more info on this laptop and thought I should ask before even opening the laptop up and starting to have a look around.

Cheers!

Your welcome. You can only use 2,5" drive with max 9.5mm thickness. It can be a mechanical drive or an SSD.

Hope it helps,

Hi,

Yes it is possible. If you look on page 31 of service manual, you can see the hard drive placed next to the M2 SSD.

However you will need the hard drive cable and best would be also to have the brackets (you could also use strong double sided tape to place the drive in the PC). The hard drive if mechanical will have a limit of 2TB because of the thickness of the drive (max 9.5mm). No limit if you place a 2,5"SSD.

The cable has part number 856352-001 and can be found quite easily online:

Example:

Hope it helps,

David

Thanks a lot for replying. So either 3,5" or 2,5" should be fine? I always thought of the latter as the laptop type of hard drive. Do you know if I'll need to remove the optical disc drive to be able to install the additional drive?
