I want to replace the hard drive on my hp envy x360 15m cn0012dx.  I am unable to find a service manual for that specific unit.  When I open the unit there is the space for a second HD but I don't see the primary HD.  I don't want to just start disassembling to find it.

Hi:

Your notebook's hard drive is a little M.2 x2280 gumstick-type NVMe drive, not a 2.5" SATA drive.

See chapter 5 of the service manual for the M.2 SSD removal and replacement procedure.

Maintenance and Service Guide HP ENVY x360 Convertible PC

On page 30 in chapter 5, you can see the location of the M.2 SSD just to the right of the battery in the illustration.

Thanks, that's helpful about the drive.  I was expecting a 2.5" format drive.

I've opened mine and internally it is different.  Do you have access to the manual for the envy x360 15m cn0012dx?

Do you know, can I remove the drive it has and put in a 2.5" drive in the spare drive spot?

Thanks for your help.

You're very welcome.

That's the only manual I could find that was supposed to be for that model series.

There is no service manual listed on the support page.

HP ENVY x360 - 15m-cn0012dx Manuals | HP® Customer Support

Chapter 1 of the manual I provided indicates that the model series could come with a 2.5" drive, but chapter 3 shows no list of the parts needed to add one.  At a minimum it would need a drive connector and a caddy to secure the drive to the notebook.

So, unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to help you with that.

It would be a whole lot easier to just replace the 256 GB NVMe SSD with one having a larger storage capacity such as 1 TB.
