HP OMEN 17-w200 17-w210n noteb
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
Huffer,

Looking at an ASUS ROG ASUS ROG GL753VE Laptop - Intel Core i7 - 4GB NVIDIA Graphics - 1080p in comparison to an HP OMEN 17-w200 17-w210nr 17.3" LCD Notebook - Intel Core i7 (7th Gen) i7-7700HQ Quad-core (4 Core) 2.80 GHz - 8 GB DDR4 SDRAM - 1 TB HDD - Windows 10 Home 64-bit - DVD-Writer - NVIDIA GeForce GT. My question is are all Intel i7 7700HQ 2.8 ghz chip set Quad core? If so I am getting more 8gb RAM more for $40 less all other system performance notwithstanding. I have owned ASUS motherboard but not laptop and this looks like an older model unit possibly. I am reviewing and would greatly appreciate your feedback.

Same processor, same video card, same storage, same screen, but the Asus has 16 gigs RAM vs. 8 but costs a bit more.

I am certainly prejudiced toward the HP. Asus makes fine laptops.

Can't see where the HP costs more.

You can't really go wrong with either one. All I can say is the nVidia GTX 1050 Ti was disappointing to me when I benchmarked it. It will not do Oculus Rift. HP makes a 17 inch Omen with a 1070 Ti video chip that is a lot more gaming capable. It is not a lot more money, either.

Huffer,

Thanks much!!

I agree about the 1070 but looks like reviews indicate battery usage goes way up? I recently purchased the HP Omen mentioned on Newegg but second guessing now, the ASUS pricing is from Costco. Looking at 1070 units on Newegg they were at least $650 more which I could not justify for my needs.

Yes you can't have video power without using some electrons. They run hot and the fan is loud but the 1070 is a real gaming video card. The 1050 struggles with anything demanding.

Here's a compromise with the 1060, which is the minimum for OR and is significantly better than the 1050.

Perfect! Thanks much for your reply. I decided to stay with HP and upgrade as suggested.
