HP 15bs115dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, can someone help me figure out why my new intel 9461ngw adapter isn't being recognized on my hp 15bs115dx laptop, I've tried multiple solutions to no avail. Does anyone have any good input, hopefully something I haven't tried yet. I understand DOA is a possibility, can someone help me check that maybe? Thanks, this adapter is supposedly compatible with my devi e.

You're very welcome.

Yes, the Intel dual band cards will work with one antenna cable, but the Bluetooth won't work without the second antenna.

Your HP Envy 6-1047CL may have an issue with upgrading the wifi card.

I know in the Intel models when you install an Intel card such as the 7260 AC, it shows up in the device manager but will not connect because the wireless radio is disabled and no one knows how to turn it on.

Since it has an AMD processor and chipset, you would only be able to use a Broadcom dual band wifi card.

It would be a risky gamble on your part, but you can try one of these Broadcom cards in it.

Again, I only have feedback on the Intel cards not working in the Envy 6-1xxx models with the Intel processors and chipsets.

Dual band AC:

Broadcom BCM4352 802.11ac 2x2 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0 combo  HP Part #724935-001.

This card would have a  throughput of 867 MBPS max on the 5.0 GHz wifi band with an AC router.

Dual band N:

Broadcom BCM943228HMB 802.11 a/b/g/n 2x2 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0 combo   HP part #730668-001

This card would have a maximum throughput of 300 MBPS on the 5.0 GHz wifi band.

You should be able to find either card on eBay by searching by the HP part number of the model you are interested in.

The AC card is probably around $20 - $30 and the dual band N card would be less than $20.

Hi:

You installed that yourself?

If so, it is not compatible.

While the card is listed as supported in the manual, it is a CRF (Companion RF) card that only works with certain processors.

The way I interpret how this card works is that it is not an 'all in one' wifi card.

It needs certain additional features the processor has to be complete.

You would only buy that model card if your notebook originally came with one.

If you are looking for an easy swap to a dual band card with Bluetooth that works with one antenna, then this is your only option...

Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11 ac 1x1 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter (MU-MIMO supported) HP part # L17365-005.

You can find this model on eBay or the HP parts store.

The card has the same throughput as the RTL8723DE card on the 2.4 GHz wifi band, but on the 5.0 GHz wifi band with an AC router, it has a maximum throughput of 433 MBPS.-- the same specs as the 9461.

What kind of antenna do I need to get and install so I can install adapters that use dual antenna? Whats the best wifi card I can get with that? Anything that is wifi 6 or Bluetooth 5.0? I really appreciate the input.

Hi:

If you want to go through all of the trouble to completely disassemble the notebook including the display panel, and buy the specific antenna kit needed that is listed in chapter 3 of your notebook's service manual, you can probably upgrade to either one of these two cards...they have to be the non-vPro versions.

The antenna kit can be found in chapter 3, on page 24.

I was just curious if you could clarify "probably" in your last statment. Is there a chance those cards might not work ?

HP Recommended

Yes, there is a slight chance they won't work.

I don't know of anyone who bothered to go through such an extensive teardown to install a better card than the RTL8821CE, so we have no feedback from other forum members regarding such an upgrade.

Well then I appreciate your input that much more. A slight chance it might not work is better to know then being told something is 100% compatible and you will not face any issues, which I've been told by both best by geek squad and hp customer support numerous times on questions I had regarding hardware compatibility to later find out after going through purchase, shipping and ultimately installing to just be completely unsuccessful after struggling to troubleshoot something that just was what I like to call a "complete waste of time" So, I'd like to thank you for your efforts in keeping this thread/forum active with knowledgeable input for us newbs seeking expert opinion and direction. I am currently in to process of upgrading 2 HP Brand notebooks. this HP 15 bs115dx stated in my post earlier here and also an HP Envy 6-1047CL . I guess it's uncommon for lads such as myself to undergo upgrading later model notebooks in this forum, so to give back I will post my processes and outcomes later on in a completely thorough and edited thread. Hopefully to help the next guy in a similar situation.

P.S. I haven't finished my current notebook upgrading , but with just a new dual band wifi card that's 2x2 and installed with only one pre installed antenna, the speed of my wireless connection is ten fold compared to the previous pre installed realtek adapter. For the less then $20 I payed for it shipped, I can't believe I didn't start this process sooner.

The card I have installed is

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265NV (non v-Pro) 802.11ac 2x2 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2

Which I had purchased on eBay, here the link
