HP Recommended
HP EliteBook x360 1040 G8 Notebook PC (1H9X2AV)

Environment

  • HP x360 1040 G8
  • BIOS 01.17.01
  • Intel Converged Security and Management Engine 15.45.24.11 (trying update to 15.47.25.21)

Steps to the problems

I tried to update the BIOS firmware to 01/17/01 Rev.A.
During the update, a black screen was displayed for a long time. After 15 minutes the computer was forced to restart.
The next time I booted, the message “HP Sure Start detected corruption in the Intel Management Engine Firmware” was displayed.
The CSME version was returned to 15.45.24.11 by HP Sure Start.

Problems

  1. The function buttons work, but the lights on Fn+F5 and Fn+F8 do not light up.
  2. The microphone is always muted, is not in the device manager, and is not in the list of audio devices in the Windows mixer. External microphones, including Bluetooth headphones, are not connected: the headphones only reproduce sound, not in headset mode.
  3. The keyboard backlight Fn+F9 turns on and then goes off.

Tested fixes that don't work

  1. BIOS update from Windows -> "HP Sure Start detected corruption in the Intel Management Engine Firmware"
  2. Updating BIOS from a flash drive -> "HP Sure Start detected corruption in the Intel Management Engine Firmware"
  3. Reinstalling Windows -> everything remains the same.
  4. Updating audio drivers.
  5. Changing microphone privacy settings.
  6. Reinstalling HP key software.
