Good morning all,
I have an old HP laptop dv7, Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz × 8 , and wondering if there is a way to upgrade the CPU for faster and more advanced one please.
I am running UBUNTU 18.04 LTS, with 16Gb RAM, and Tb of HDD.
I would appreciate an answer please.
Best regards
Siamak

You're very welcome.
This is the service manual for the dv7-6100 model series...
You could upgrade to the Intel Quad Core i7-2820QM processor but unless you can get one inexpensively, it probably would not be worth it.
You'd get more for your money by replacing the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" SSD if you have not done so already.

Hi:
What is the product number of your dv7 notebook?
There are two service manuals for the notebooks that come with Intel 2nd gen core processors.
The one thing I can tell you is that you can't install anything newer than a better Intel 2nd gen quad core processor than the one you have installed now.
This manual for the dv7c model series indicates the best processor you can install is the Intel Core i7-2860QM
And this one for the dv7-60xx model series indicates the best processor you can install is the Intel Quad Core i7-2820QM

Thanks for the new information, I do a lot of CAD/CAM and SSD 's are not very reliable so far as the read and write are concerned, so no I have not done that.
I just bout a Z-Book and it has 32Gb RAM and relatively better i7, so I ma going to leave it as it is.
Cheers for the info.
