I was researching for another basic 17 inch laptop computer for my husband.
The laptop he was just on started doing an update and the machine shut down to restart but it refuses to turn on. I don't know what the problem is.
It did have a warranty but that ended two years ago.
My question though I was looking at the 17t- 400 (basic computer again) and was wondering how can I tell if the laptop has an internal DVD/CD slot.
He doesn't game just researches the internet. He is retired and doesn't do anything but read his emails and read things on the internet.
He does own/have CD's and DVD he used to watch on the laptop
One inexpensive 17 in laptop does not have an internal slot and the keyboard has a "chiclet" keyboard--so that is ruled out.
My husband has coke bottle eye sight and the keys are too small.
This 17t-400 has a standard keyboard but it doesn't say it has a DVD/CD slot.
Can anyone help and in advance thank you for helping

A basic 17 inch that I can customize.
The island/chiclet keyboard is not a good keyboard for him.
I really liked the laptop I had given him about 5 years ago with a regular keyboard.
I am hoping to get him something on sale for Christmas-purchasing it now and have it delivered in the next couple of weeks
I can't believe the "dead" laptop was bought new around 5 years here on the website.
It isn't the battery or cord--tried different ones
I did purchase an extended warranty when I bought the laptop for three years.
I know people are saying laptops are good for only 5 years--sad if I may say so myself.
I don't understand why the laptop died when it was updating and shut down and didn't "fire" up.
If we didn't have bad luck we wouldn't have any luck at all.
I appreciate your response.
Am I to assume internal DVD's/Cd's are a thing of the past?

5 years is about the average life of a laptop. If they do not die electronically they become obsolete.
The internal DVD drive on laptops is getting hard to find but not impossible. You now see them more on the mobile workstations which are expensive. Also unfortunately the chicklet or island style keyboard is also the norm. Configured this one for $620. Has a "standard" keyboard and a FHD (1920 x 1080) screen. No DVD drive; it's not an option. Also not set to ship by Christmas so be a bit more specific as to your budget etc. and we can find something better for you
If you have to have a DVD drive use an external usb model:
