Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I reviewed your post and I understand that you want to change the hard drive on your computer and want to know whether a higher power consumption SSD will affect the motherboard.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
Usually, the SSD's use less power compared to a SATA hard drive. Below is the typical power consumption comparison.
Idle Power Draw Max Power Draw
Solid State Drives 0.1 to 0.6 W 2.0 to 4.0 W
Hard Disk Drives 4.0 to 6.0 W 6.5 to 9.0 W
You can go ahead and install an SSD on the computer and the power consumption should not affect the motherboard.
I hope that answers your question and you have a great day!
If you wish to show appreciation for my efforts, mark my post as Accept as Solution. Your feedback counts!
Cheers!
