Dw3033dx

So on my hp 15-dw3033dx I have the remaining samsung nvme and I have added a HGST 500gb spinning sata.  Both drives work perfectly fine when accessed via windows PE or linux mint or windows 10 vm virtualbox on linux mint. Both drives are identified properly in the UEFI firmware and the nvme is set as the first boot option. I am able to boot linux just fine from either drive and I am able to use ventoy to boot iso's stored on either drive. If I mount a windows 10 iso in winPE I am able to select these drives and format however I choose.

Neither drive is accessible if I boot to windows 10 install media. It gives me the "a media driver you need is missing" error no matter if I boot to a usb stick or if I use ventoy or super grub2 disk. Also if I boot to windows install media and choose the "repair your computer" option, startup repair fails and if I use the command prompt to look for the disks using diskpart > list disks the internal drives are not shown. I also have tried to run bootrec /FixBoot from inside winPE and recieve "Access Denied" error. I have tried installing windows by mounting win10 iso inside winPE and running setup.exe. This works just fine, allowing me to select internal drives and the install seems to work until the system reboots and I get BSOD "inaccessible_boot_device" stop code.  I get the same stop code after making vmdk of the nvme and using virtualbox to install to an ntfs partition. I get the same stop code after using acronis true image to restore a win10 image. I have also attempted the bootrec /FixBoot from command prompt on install media accessed via virtualbox and received same access denied error.  The iso I am using is not corrupt. I am able to install to vm with it in both qemu and virtualbox and the system runs just fine.  I have created windows install media from inside winPE, linux mint, and on another computer running windows 10.  Also I have checked the drivers used by winPE for these disks (disk. inf amd64 8b9c01fe86e4ff46) and that driver is available on the install media however when I select this the install utility still insists that there is no matching drivers and no storage media.  I have also extracted the intel rapid storage drivers as per the instructions provided by intel and yet still I cannot install windows via the install media.

There is obviously nothing wrong with my storage controller or either of the drives or physical connections.

Please advise on a method of installing windows or repairing windows to one my internal drives AND booting.

EDIT: also I have updated the fuefi irmware to the latest available from hp (f.68). but the problem persists.

@tututuskant,

Since your notebook comes with an Intel Core 11th gen processor, you need to supply Intel RST storage controller driver to the Windows installer so that it can detect the storage drive to install Windows on.

You can follow the steps below to complete the Windows installation.

1. Use a Windows installation usb drive created with Microsoft Media Creation Tool (an ISO file-based installation usb drive tends to cause errors during the IRST driver installation).

2. Download Intel RST driver from the link below. Run it as administrator and follow on screen instructions to perform the driver extraction process.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp146501-147000/sp146929.exe

3. Go to C:\SWSetup\sp146929. Double click the folder and copy the F6 folder to the root directory of a Windows installation usb drive. The F6 folder contains IRST drivers which the installation setup needs to detect the storage drive.

4. Connect the usb drive to the notebook and boot the system from the usb drive. When you are asked where to install Windows, click on Load Driver. Click on Browse and click the usb drive in the window that opens. Click the F6 folder then OK.

5. Multiple drivers will be displayed. Select one of them then click Ok.

6. The storage drive will be displayed with partitions if the drive has the OS installed previously. Delete all of the partitions to see "unallocated space" and click Next to proceed the installation.

Please read the entire original post before responding.

Also the sata drive should be showing regardless of IRST drivers in this context any solution addressing only the nvme is not going to work. Although I will attempt any solution offered that is NEW and not already documented in the original post.

IRST driver has to contain the following five files. Did you supply them to the Windows installer?

Also, a Windows installation usb drive created with Microsoft media creation tool works best.
