Pavilion Power 15 cb-008ur
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi!

I have Pavilion Power 15-cb008ur notebook with 8GB RAM onboard.

I'd like to increase RAM up to 32GB, but not sure is this possible.

According to the official spec this model supports max 16GB RAM.

But the chipset (HM175) definitely suports 32GB RAM.

OS also tells me that this amount is ok: the command

Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_physicalmemoryarray | Format-List -Property MaxCapacity

returns

MaxCapacity: 33554432

Moreover, there are similar laptops with 32GB are selling on Amazon: HP Pavilion 15 Power Gaming Notebook

But the official spec says "only 16GB (2x8GB) is supported"

So, is it true?

Can I buy for example this kit PV432G240C5SK and install it it safely into my laptop?

@polosat

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. I came across your post and would like to assist.

I understand that you have an HP Pavilion Power - 15-cb008ur and you would like to know if 32GB can be added to the laptop.

I did some research on this and found that the laptop has been tried and tested with a maximum of 8GB RAM so far. Source: Page# 40 of the service guide.

Also, the product specification shows that the laptop has an 8 GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM (1 x 8 GB). As per this information there is only one memory slot. So a maximum of 16GB could be supported and 32GB RAM may not be supported.

Hope this answers your question. Let me know. Cheers! 🙂

I don't think that single 32 gig modules are a "thing" so 16 GB is the biggest module you can get.

As per this information there is only one memory slot

I have a screwdriver and my eyes 🙂

Using these two very useful devices I can tell for sure that there are TWO memory slots in my laptop.

No no.

I'm talking about two modules, 16GB each.

By the specification this laptop does not support 16GB modules at all.

Neither 16x1 nor 16x2.

I would install (8GBx2) as per specification of course.

But....

  1. There are custom models of this series on the market that are equiped with 32GB (the links are in the startpost)
  2. Windows reports that 32GB is possible

OK.

It seems I need to take a risk, buy the modules and try to install them.

If there are 2 slots and the laptop takes DDR4 memory, all reports of actual users including the custom sellers, support the idea that it will take 2 x 16 gig for 32 gigs total. The HP Manual says otherwise and has to be considered but I feel you are pretty safe going for 32 gigs.
