Envy 17-u108ca
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Greetings,

I was surprised to learn that Device Encryption is available in all editions of Windows 10. I have the Home edition. Does my HP Envy 17-u108ca support encryption?

  • Device Manager shows Security devices > Trusted Platform Module 2.0
  • I can open the Trusted Platform Module management console by running tpm.msc
  • System Information > Device Encryption Support says "Reasons for failed automatic device encryption: Hardware Security Test Interface failed and device is not InstantGo, Disabled by policy"

I don't think my laptop supports InstantGo. What does "disabled by policy" mean? Is it something that I can change?

Thanks,

Shane.

Yes, it has and it should support  InstantGo. It is up to you to set it up.

My laptop doesn't support InstantGo, which is required for Device Encryption. I'm not sure why a power management feature is needed to encrypt files.
