HP Notebook - 14-bp061sa
Linux

I have gotten a new PC and use this product as my second computer (on which I have installed Linux).

The computer is often slow, and when I go into hardware usage, RAM usage is almost always at 100%.

Therefore, I decided to upgrade the RAM (I want to do this myself - about time I should learn).

Apparently the 4GB DDR4 RAM used is no longer avaliable (862397-855), but I have found an external 4GB DDR4 RAM stick (Memory for a HP/HPE - 14 Series Notebook 14-bp091no - Kingston Technology). My only issue is that this is for the bp091no, whilst I have the bp061sa, and that the 2 sticks are from different companies.

Would this raise compatibility issues?

Could the two sticks still work and also run in dual-channel mode?

Thanks 🙂

Ram is not "external".

It is internal and fits in slots on the laptop's system board.

re:

Could the two sticks still work and also run in dual-channel mode?" They won't run in dual-channel mode."

I suggest that you purchase  a pair of identical memory modules from Kingston.

If you mix the 1Rx8 with the 1RX8 module, dual channel won't work. The modules have to be identical, even in brand for dual channel.

I recommend that you look more closely at your storage solution for the perceived "slowness" issue that you mentioned. Just how close to full capacity is your hard disk? It should never be more than 80% full.

Empty your temp(TMP) folder. That should help.

Take a look at running  processes to see if there is something running that you are not familiar with that is an inexplicable memory hog.
