Hi:

it is best to install the memory in matching capacities so it runs in the higher performing dual channel mode.

Installing memory in mismatched capacities (4 + 8, 2 + 4), results in the memory running in the lower performing single channel mode.

It would be fine to install a 4 GB + an 8 GB chip if you plan on maxing out the memory one day.

Otherwise it would be a waste of money to buy a 4 GB chip now, and then decide you want to upgrade to the max of 16 GB and then you have two 4 GB memory chips lying around collecting dust.

The Crucial memory report for your notebook indicates that a max of 2 x 8 GB of memory is supported in your notebook and they have compatible memory for sale.

Before I would install 16 GB of memory, I would replace the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a better performing 2.5" solid state drive (SSD).

A SSD makes a very good improvement in performance.
