Hello @telmeyourip,
According to your computer's Maintenance and Service Guide, there are a few listings for NVMe PCIe SSDs, therefore, implying compatibility.
Steps to replacement can be found here.
If you search up some info on this forum, you can find that some people have run into compatibility issues regarding some models of Samsung NVMe PCIe SSDs on HP laptops, therefore, it's not a bad idea of simply referring to the part that is listed by HP in the manual.
Hope this helps,
Eddy

I just installed https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/product/consumer/970evo/ in 512GB capacity. I just plugged it in and then booted from USB and reimaged windows 10. When I compare the performance with CrystalDiskMark it shows about twice the performance of the SATA SSD that came with the PC. I verified that I had the latest BIOS installed before I did this as originally the PC only supported 256GB in NVMe, but 512 works fine.
