OMEN by HP Laptop PC - 15-ax033dx (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm looking to upgrade my existing 512 GB SATA SSD drive to 2TB SSD. It appears my base laptop can support either SATA SSD or NVMe M.2 SSD. I'd prefer to upgrade to a NVMe M.2 as that interface type generally has higher performance and longer warranty.  It seems there are several sub-types or versions within NVMe M.2.  Will all of the following sub-types of NVMe M.2 be compatible with my device or just some of them?

- NVMe M.2 PCIe 3

- NVMe M.2 PCIe 4

- NVMe M.2-2280 PCIe 3

- NVMe M.2-2280 PCIe 4

Thanks!

Hi:

It appears from looking at chapter 1 of the service manual that the notebook supports NVMe SSD's.

Whether or not a 2 TB drive would be supported, that I do not know.   In theory it should be.

Your notebook's M.2 SSD slot is only PCie Gen 3.0.

While a Gen 4 NVMe SSD will work, it will not run at its maximum advertised read/write speeds.

The form factor of the drive you need is M.2 2280.

Thanks Paul!

I can confirm I purchased and installed an "NVMe M.2-2280 PCIe 4" type SSD with no problems.

Cheers!

You're very welcome, and thanks for letting us know a 2 TB NVMe SSD works in that model series.

Cheers,

Paul
