Dear All,

I want to install Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 (2280) 500GB on my HP Probook 450 G4 i7 and 15 inch laptop due to heavey work load. Can any buddy tell me whether this device is compatible with my laptop? I will be glad for your early response.

Thanks,

That is the list of configurations offered by HP from the factory and has nothing to do with any limit of the hardware. You can install an M.2 SATA SSD as large as your budget permits.

Hi Ghaffar,

It supports only M2 SATA3 such as the Samsung 860 Evo or similar of your desired capacity. still much faster than a 2.5" HDD.

No PCIe NVMe SSD support.

You can see on page 3 of the service manual

Hope it helps,

David

Dear Iomare,

Thank you so much for your reply. I was hoping that it could support for such an express card upto 500 GBs and use the 1 tb hard disk already installed on it for backing up data, but alas it  only supports mini card solid state drive upto 250 GB SSD which is what I do  not want. In the nut shell i need to replace the hard disk with the one you mentioned or some similar. I hope my software won't hang while running multiple software simultaneously such as ArcGIS & Visual Studio 🙂

But wait sir, I have scanned my system with crucial from crucial.com and it tells me that there are two interfaces such as SATA & M.2 and I can install Crucial MX500 1TB 3D NAND M.2 Tye 2280 Internal SSD in M.2 port. Please confirm that sir whether this is true. I

Thanks, Ghaffar

Hi,

Yes, you can. If you see in the my post above I said you could use an M2 SATA3 SSD such as the M2 Samsung 860 Evo

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078218TWQ/ref=twister_B0797N5GWN?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

which is the same kind of SSD as the M2 Crucial MX500

https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-MX500-500GB-2280SS-Internal/dp/B077SQ8J1V/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=m2+mx50...

So, yes, both of those will work.

Hope it helps,

David

Dear Sir,

Thank you so much for your reply and wonderful help. While seeing the service manual it says that

Primary M.2 storage  M.2 2280 SSD (NGFF), SATA-3
Supports the following drives:
● 256 GB
● 128 GB
Set as primary storage if selected.

Will it work/compatible for more than 256 GBs with M.2 2280 SSD SATA-3 ? I thought it only will be compatible for 256 GBs. Once again thank you for your help.

You're welcome,

Yes, as @Huffer says, they are the capacity (sizes) that the computer could have been bought with (optional), however, you can insert your desired capacity and it will work (no limit)

David
