My HP Notebook-15-f387wm (Touch) (Energy Star) is extremely slow for undetermined reasons - scan for Malware gives clean report. I have a second one with the same problem. PLEASE SIMPLY LET ME KNOW IF UPGRADING the 4GB main RAM memory to 16GB and upgrading the Hard Drive to a 250GB SSD would be a worthwhile investment showing an immediate dramatic improvement - or should I simply buy a new machine? Thank you for your time. Pilgrimtech.

Hi Pilgrimtech,
Yes, an SSD upgrade would definitely boost your computer. Recommended SSD here.
In terms of RAM, 12GB is overkill unless you do 3D modelling or video editing. If you feel that you're having trouble multitasking or keeping several internet tabs open, you can opt for upgrading to 8GB of RAM - probably the ideal amount for an average consumer.
However, I do have to inform you that your computer uses an AMD Quad-Core A8-7410 APU with Radeon R5 Graphics (2.2 GHz, 2 MB cache) and may be the root issue. I've personally owned an HP laptop with an A8 APU and the experience wasn't the best.
You can get upgrade instructions in your computer's Maintenance and Service Guide.
Hope this helps,
