Hi @lokatmo4,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Pavilion Gaming 15-EC2048AX suddenly stopped working and now shows a blank or frozen display with only the Caps Lock light responding. Let’s go through what could be happening and how to check whether it’s a motherboard, display, or cable issue.

Initial Power Check

Disconnect the charger and all external devices (mouse, USB, etc.).

Press and hold the Power button for 15–20 seconds to drain residual power.

Plug in the charger and try powering it on again.

Observe LED Indicators

The Caps Lock LED blinking pattern can indicate a hardware fault.

If it blinks continuously in a specific pattern (for example, 2 long + 3 short), note it — that’s a diagnostic code.

If it stays solid, it generally means the system is powering but not posting.

Check Display Functionality

Connect the laptop to an external monitor or TV via HDMI.

Power on the system and press F4 (or Fn + F4) to switch the display output.

If you get output on the external display, your internal display cable or panel could be faulty.

Check for Backlight

Power on the laptop and shine a flashlight at an angle on the screen.

If you can faintly see the HP logo or Windows loading, it’s a backlight/display issue, not the motherboard.

Reseat RAM (if accessible)

Power off and unplug the laptop.

Open the back panel and carefully remove the RAM sticks.

Reinsert them firmly or try booting with one stick at a time.
A loose or faulty RAM module can prevent the system from posting.

Check for Overheating/Power Faults

If the system shuts off unexpectedly before this issue started, it could be a motherboard power fault or a VRM failure (common in gaming laptops after prolonged heat exposure).

BIOS Reset

Disconnect power and hold Windows + V, then press Power for a few seconds until you see a BIOS reset or hear a series of beeps.

Release and wait for the system to attempt a restart.

If No Signs of Display or Boot

If there are no fans, no HP logo, and no display on an external monitor, it’s likely a motherboard or GPU failure.

If the fans spin but nothing appears on any display, a loose display cable or dead display panel is more likely.

I hope this helps.
