Hi, so I wanted to upgrade my laptop's CPU to i7 820QM, but I'm not sure if it's compatible with it.
Current Specs:
Intel Core i5 460m 2.53GHz (2C/4T)
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650
8 GB DDR3 RAM
256GB SSD

It is on the list of the following manual (page 1)
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02657339.pdf
Please update BIOS before installing new Processor. You can use the procedure from page 98
Regards.

Hi, @theepicblade
Take a look at chapter 3, pages 22 & 23 of the service manual.
It shows that different motherboards are used for the notebooks with dual core processors and those with the quad core processors, so I am not 100% sure that the i7-820QM processor will work in your notebook's motherboard.

Thanks . I missed those pages.
Please read Paul's note above

Thanks for the answers, I checked my laptop's motherboard and turns out I have the "Dual Core, HD 5650, WiMAX" one (630279-001)
So, i7-820QM is not probably going to work on my laptop.
Here's some images of dual core and quad core motherboards:
Dual Core (630279-001)
Quad Core (630278-001)
Who knows, maybe I'll buy a i7 640m later 🙂
