I want to upgrade My laptop SSD to the latest m.2 pci nvme ssds but there is a problem. The slot in my mother board is a B key slot which mostly are m.2 Sata ports but the fact that the existing ssd is placed upside down counters the key as M key, as the M notch has been inserted in the B key slot. So does it make a Pci slot or is it a sata slot and can m.2 sata ssds work both ways normal and upside down. I have already been to a lot of customer services centre and even HP’s own service centre and all they said is we have to check by installing a new one . If it works take it else we will take it back. I am in a big confusion right now

Hi,

The slot on your motherboard accepts only M2 SATA3 SSDs from your preferred brand and capacity.

From service manual

"Support for M.2 SATA SSD "

On page 35 of service manual you can see the steps to install the drive

Hope it helps,

Then why did they place it upside down? Does this installment is not a M key with B key slot

Hi,

The slots in the notebooks are all the same. They have one notch and physically will accept M2 SATA and M2 PCIe SSDs.

However, your notebook has only SATA capability from the slot. So inserting a PCIe SSD will not work.

Upside down is just the way they must be inserted for the correct connection.

If you remove the SSD and look closely at the slot, there is probably written SATA somewhere.

Hope it helps,

David

Then please let me know the best upgrade options available for this laptop. I think upgrading the capacity of the ssd wont work as the existing one has the same read and write speed. What can i do to enhance the performance of this laptop. I know sata are outdated and the shift is toward nvme but please let me know what can i do?
