I just got a HP 15-fc0527sa and I noticed the fans get loud even on not exactly demanding tasks? Is it normal for this to happen and if not, could there be any possible reasons for them being so loud?

Hi @pariemala

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how distracting it can feel when the fans on a new laptop sound louder than expected, especially during everyday tasks. Thank you for already paying close attention to your system’s behavior. Let’s go through a few steps that can help reduce unnecessary fan noise and ensure the cooling system is working optimally:

Check Windows Power Mode

  • Go to Settings > System > Power & Battery > Power Mode.
  • Set it to “Balanced” or “Best Power Efficiency” when you’re not gaming. This reduces CPU/GPU load and fan activity.

HP App Performance Settings

  • Open the HP App on your laptop.
  • Switch the thermal profile to “Balanced” or “Quiet” mode when you’re doing lighter tasks.
  • Use “Performance” mode only when gaming or running demanding applications.

Update BIOS and Drivers

  • Outdated firmware can sometimes cause aggressive fan curves. Please check for updates here: HP 15-fc0527sa Drivers & Downloads.
  • Install the latest BIOS, chipset, and graphics drivers available for your model.

Clean Airflow and Placement

  • Place the laptop on a hard, flat surface to allow proper ventilation.
  • Avoid soft surfaces like beds or couches that block the vents.
  • Ensure the vents are free from dust buildup.

Monitor Background Processes

  • Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check if any background apps are consuming high CPU or GPU resources. Closing unnecessary apps can reduce fan speed.

Temperature Monitoring

  • Use the HP App or NVIDIA GeForce Experience overlay to check CPU/GPU temperatures.
  • If temperatures are consistently high during light tasks, it may indicate background load or thermal settings that need adjustment.

Windows Updates and System Optimization

  • Ensure Windows Update has installed all the latest patches.
  • Run HP Support Assistant or the HP App’s diagnostics to confirm system health.

These steps should help you manage the fan noise more effectively. Since gaming laptops are designed with powerful cooling systems, fans can sometimes spin up even during lighter workloads, but adjusting performance modes and keeping airflow clear usually makes a noticeable difference.

Would you like me to also share how to configure the HP App so that it automatically switches between Quiet and Performance modes depending on whether you’re gaming or just browsing? That can make the experience smoother without needing to adjust settings manually.
